The Giver: Summary

In this last chapter that we just read in class we discovered some key facts about the dystopian world that the Giver takes place in. We discover that the old receiver of memories is going to be transmitting his memories and the memories of the receivers before him to Jonas. Then while the receiver is trying to explain the feeling of the memories to Jonas we discover that Jonas doesn't know what snow is or even what downhill means. So, we can assume that the land they live in is flat, and very climate controlled. Basically we have discovered that the Giver's job is to give Jonas the memories of how the world was before their dystopian town was created.
